We’d arranged to visit friends before travelling back to the UK from Switzerland, so the van didn’t become our ‘home’ again for a few more days after the week in the chalet at Murren. On Sunday morning, 12 March, we bade our farewells to Tim and John. Steve managed to hire a trolley to help take our luggage back to the cablecar and we set off back down to the valley, in beautiful sunshine but leaving some fresh snow on the mountain. Departing the carpark at 12 noon, after repacking everything into the van, the 90 miles to Zurich didn’t take long as we discovered how many Swiss roads are actually in tunnels! We managed to find Barbara and Christoff’s house in Zurich without too much trouble, arriving mid-afternoon.
After a most enjoyable evening we spent Monday exploring Zurich, then drove the 60 miles to Radolfzell on the shore of Lake Bodensee to stay for a couple of days with Herbert and Ulriche. On Tuesday, a trip to visit Konstanz was curtailed by pouring rain but we enjoyed a meal in a lakeside restaurant in the evening.
