Having found a garage for diesel and lpg in Ubéda, we depart at 1115 Friday, 1 March on the Autovia del Olivar towards Jaén. Following a sign off the road to look for services, we ended up completely lost on a diversion through acres of olive groves, coming across Mancha Real and finally stopping at Martos, just past Jaén, for essential shopping at a DIA supermarket. We find an interesting bridge and water management system for a lunch stop along the Rio Vinabro, near the Vents da Pantalones and then continue across terraces of olives wondering where we’ll find a place to stop.
We pull in at an inviting bar for a coffee and take another look at the map, it seems too far to make it to Malaga to park on the beach so we head for Antequera. After a wrong turn which takes us through the very narrow ‘centro urbani’ we find the free camping area directly opposite the castle. It has a great friendly ‘feel’ to the spot with several other vans parked up in easy walking distance of the town.
