In 2018 we ‘upgraded’ from our trusty Mazda Bongo to a fully self-sufficient van. This blog records our adventures, starting in January 2023 with a quick look back to 2019, the last time we left the UK pre-Covid19 lockdowns.
Until September, 2023,our van was an Adria 600 Twin, based on a Fiat Ducato. Nearing the 30,000 mile mark on a 2017 plate, we replaced it with a Hymer 600S, based on a Mercedes Sprinter, first registered in 2020. It’s a bit smaller but with automatic transmission and significantly better seats, the drive is more comfortable. We’ve worked out how to stow all we need for a long trip and live comfortably in the new van even in cold and wet weather. The first ‘big trip’ in the Hymer was to Spain & Portugal. Although we’ve had a few technical issues, on balance we’ve decided not to trade for something else and look forward to more travelling in 2025.
Find short videos of our trips on YouTube.
We spend quite a bit of time in Suffolk in the van, where we’ve got a 125-year old classic yacht, ‘Cachalot’.
